Happy New Puppy Excitement!

We just put a deposit down for first pick of a brown, male newf puppy. We visited the breeder last week and got a grand tour of the farm and all of their dogs. Momma was in heat while we were visiting and they are confident that Daddy will get the job done. They will confirm in mid-August if she is expecting. If she doesn't have any male puppies, then we get second pick of a female. We are so excited to be adding to our family!

I'll never forget when I told the breeder I wanted one male Landseer Newf, please. She kinda' giggled, then explained that Landseer is recessive so we'll just have to see what mother nature gives us. I was on pins and needles until delivery. Mom produced one male Landseer out of 12 puppies! Looking back, I must have appeared to the breeder like I was ordering a cheeseburger (no pickels) at McDonald's drive-thru. I don't have a clue if brown is dominant or recessive, but you're very lucky to have first pick. That...would be a tough decision!

Brown is recessive, but both Momma and Daddy are brown so you can only get brown. So we have a better chance of getting a brown male. We are just keeping our fingers crossed that she will have a litter this time and that we won't have to wait for her next cycle. It will be a very tough decision if there is more than one male. Picking a name is always hard too!

I will definitely share pictures. We can go and pick our puppy after they have their first shots. We can visit as much as we want, but we can't take him/or her home until after he is 8 weeks old and everything is okay. We are still waiting for confirmation of the pregnancy. Keeping our fingers crossed!

My breeder told me she had bred a Landseer to a Landseer and got all Black dominant pups. I don't see how that's possible. I wonder if your breeder would know, just out of curiosity. Also, that male is Wow! I asked my vet when I can neuter my 6.5 mo. male. She told me if I spent the kind of $ she suspected, I should wait even up to 4 years to allow for that Newf look...broad shoulders and large head. I now see what she means in the dad picture. I'm not sure I can put up with testosterone for that long, but will try. I hope she takes, I hated the not knowing. Good Luck!

The dad, Tusk, is 7-years-old. So will having a male neutered early stop some of that growth?

Apparently so... from what she said, I assumed it's the testosterone producing the large head, broad shoulders, proud male look. She said they're not fully finished maturing until 4 yrs., though they'll stop acting puppyish at around 2yrs. I worry then that removing too soon the testicles containing the testosterone will kinda' cut off what could have been.
