Stubborn Walking

I introduced Bently to the forum last week, and he has decided to be the hard headed 8 week old that I'm sure everyone here has dealt with. We live in an apartment complex and he has learned where he is supposed to go to the bathroom at and is doing pretty well with his potty training. The thing is, whenever we take him out now he will only walk to and from his potty area. I really want to take him on short walks to get some of his energy out but he refuses to go anywhere else than that one path that he knows. Anyone else here experience this? Any advice on how to get him to walk other places?

he is pretty young, you may want to wait until he has his other vacinations. but when ozzy was younger, and was afraid to walk i used to take him for a drive and then walk from there. good luck!!!

We didn't get our Newfs until they were over four months old... But I have heard of pups going through fear stages. If you want him to go further, you might try enticing him by putting a treat a few feet further than his usual spot.

Yeah we have tried getting him to come to treats, which kind of works. He will usually come to get the treat and then stop again after he gets it, every once and a while it will trigger him to start walking a little bit. It looks like this may just be repitition and getting a little older. Thanks for the advice!

From what I can remember of Indy at that age, it was mainly eating, potty time, and nap time. She would play and walk for small periods of time, but her focus was mainly sleep and food. My focus was potty time. I would enjoy him not wanting to walk much. Pretty soon I am sure that you will forget how nice this phase is.
